Unified Towns to Build Municipal Facilty

On Thursday, March 13, 2008, Unified Towns and Gores of Essex County residents passed a $230,500  bond vote to begin construction on a new municipal building.  Pictured are UTG Supervisor Jennifer Hanlon (left) and UTG Board of Governors member Barbara Nolan, counting votes.  Twenty -one of thirty registered voters participated, and the proposed project passed with 16 yes votes and 5 no.   The UTG has also been awarded a $62,000 grant for the project from the USDA.   The UTG owns 112 acres of land on VT105 in Ferdinand, which is the proposed location of the building.  The UTG has never owned a municipal office building, and presently rents a small office in Island Pond at the old Railroad Building.
