Vermont Unified Towns and Gores PDF Property Map Details

Disclaimer

The Unified Towns and Gores property maps are not surveys and must not be used as such. The maps can be used to assist examining town records, but are not substitutes for town records.

The PDF maps are generated automatically as part of the process for producing paper map books and GIS (Geographical Information System) data for use by officials of the Unified Towns and Gores. This process is optimized for their purposes, not for the creation of web-based maps.

Parcels And Unlanded Property

Each town is divided into parcels. Each parcel has a grandlist code, a public road name, or a public water body name. Map parcels may actually have more than one grandlist record; this happens when the parcel has multiple owners with no subdivision lines. Parcels with multiple grandlist records show text for multiple grandlist codes. Map parcels may contain multiple polygons; for example, a parcel might be split by a public road so it has a polygon on each side of the road. Parcels with multiple polygons show the same code in each polygon. Unlanded properties such as camps exist in the grandlist. An unlanded property is represented on the map as a small square with the grandlist code at the end of a leader line.

Map Codes

Each map code applies to the polygon containing its lower left corner or the end of its leader line. To find a code on the map, use the search capability of the Adobe Acrobat PDF Reader. You must have version 5.0 or greater. You can download the reader for free from the Adobe web site. You will need to zoom to at least 200X in the PDF maps to see details such as map codes.

To help you find codes on the map, three cross references are provided for each town/gore. These are ordered on grandlist code, owner name, and grandlist SPAN. If, for example, you want to find the parcel belonging to John Doe, scroll the list ordered by owner name to find "DOE JOHN", obtain the code from the record, and use Adobe Acrobat to search for the code ion the PDF map.
